I have come from a family of jewllers and have always loved antique unusual pieces. I love conversions, making things useful for todays women. I try to source quirky pieces which women can buy for themselves or hint at someone to buy them for them. Mitaine is a jewellery shop with antique pieces, selected for their beauty and quality. I have a History of Art BA from Goldsmiths University of London and have a Cert GA from the Gemmological Association otherwise know as Gem-A and this is the oldest gemological institute in the world and based in London's Hatton Garden. Some of the items in the shop have insurance valuations and gemmological appraisals. A jewelry appraisal verifies the features of a piece of jewelry. It also values the jewelry’s monetary worth. It is a legal document that can be held up in a court of law, signed by a certified appraiser.
The appraisals on the items are independant of my shop and staff and are externally done and I believe this is important for the customer. It means there is no vested interest in its price. When I use an independent appraiser, I am allowing an outside, objective party to determine the price of the piece of jewelry.
If an item you like does not have an appraisal please ask me for a quote for this service and you and I can send it away if requested. It is usually back within a week.
